“Return to Me with all your heart,
with fasting and weeping and mourning.”
Joel 2:12

Good morning my friends.

Lent is a quiet invitation.

Not a demand.
Not a performance.
Not a spiritual exam we have to pass.

Just an invitation.

An invitation to return.

Life has a way of carrying us further than we ever intended to go. Not always through rebellion or deliberate choices, but through distraction, disappointment, weariness, or simply the busyness of living.

And before we realise it, our hearts feel a little distant.

Not gone.
Not lost.
Just… distant.

In Joel 2, God speaks to His people with words that still carry such tenderness today:

“Return to Me with all your heart.”

Notice what He does not say.

He doesn't say:
“Fix yourself first.”
“Get your life in order.”
“Prove you deserve to come back.”

He simply says:

Return.

That’s the heart of Lent.

Not striving harder.
Not punishing ourselves.
Not trying to impress God with spiritual effort.

It’s about gently turning our hearts back toward Him again.

Because the beautiful truth is this:
God has never moved.

While we wander,
He waits.

While we struggle,
He watches with compassion.

And when we turn back, even slightly, we find that His mercy meets us immediately.

That’s why Joel continues with these remarkable words:

“Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love.” (Joel 2:13)

My friends, Lent is not a season of shame.

It is a season of grace.

A season where God quietly whispers:

"Come back.
Come closer.
My arms are still open."

So, wherever you find yourself today — spiritually strong, spiritually tired, or somewhere in between, hear the invitation again:

Return.

Not tomorrow.
Not when life settles down.
Today.

Because the Father always welcomes those who come home.

Prayer

Father God,

Thank You that Your invitation is always open.

When our hearts drift, You do not turn us away, You call us back with kindness and mercy.

During this season of Lent, help me to return to You again with honesty and trust.

Draw my heart closer to Yours.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

If this encouraged you today, feel free to share it with someone who might need the same reminder.

Much love 🤍
